“I train the same way I live – with respect, integrity, physical and mental discipline. My training philosophy is as it is in life – hard but fair.”

My whole life has been dedicated to health and fitness in one way or another. As a kid I loved playing footy, but after many injuries I was told I was never going to be able to play again. I was devastated, but this turned out to be a blessing in disguise; it gave me an introduction to the fitness industry as I took on the role of the strength and conditioning coach for the North Sydney Bears in the National Rugby League (NRL).

Believe it or not I started out as a carpenter but it was the fitness industry that I was really passionate about and I ended up working full time as a coach, gym instructor (teaching 25 – 30 classes weekly, before PT was around), Les Mills Instructor Trainer, International Presenter, Personal Trainer, Director of my own personal training business and the trainer of the Blue Team and the most successful team coach on The Biggest Loser Australia.

After working in the industry for more than 20 years and being part of the massive transformations that have taken place on the show, I’m still in awe of the resilience of the human body and spirit and amazed at how much and how quickly the body can change with the right diet, exercise and self-belief. I’m not even close to burning out and every season of The Biggest Loser Australia fires me up. I’m still ‘frothing’ about training myself and get excited before every session. I’m eternally grateful for the opportunities I get to transform people’s lives.

In 2014 I had to fight back from a torturous year of injuries and ill health. Three shoulder surgeries, whooping cough and cortisone injections into my spine tested me to the limit and I had to crawl back to fitness from the bottom of the ladder. Those tests were lessons for me and gave me a priceless insight into just how hard training and exercise can be. I’m back fitter, stronger and more determined than ever but with a renewed empathy for those who are doing it tough.

Another enormous motivator for me is my family. My beautiful wife Kylie and my kids Max and Milla. There’s nothing I love more than getting down to the park with Max on our scooters, skate boards, bikes, just running or now, as he gets older taking him out for a surf. Being an active father and husband is so important to me. Max and I are never still and even mowing the lawns isn’t so much of a chore now with my ‘little mate’ two steps behind pushing his own plastic Victor.

Kids are wonderful imitators. We simply have to give them something wonderful to imitate.
